WET at Night is coming to a close for the 2015 season, but the hump day pool party is not going away quietly. With veteran superstar DJ Steve Angello set to headline, Wet Republic is making a splash for its last nighttime pool party of the year.
Angello is returning to Wet Republic after a several-year hiatus. In fact, the 32-year-old Swedish producer was one of the first DJs to headline the Ultra Pool when it first opened. Wet Republic.com spent some time with Angello to field his thoughts on his upcoming party at the pool taking place next Wednesday, September 16.
Wet Republic.com: How excited are you to be coming back and playing Wet Republic again?
Angello: I’m really excited to play Wet – especially at night. I’ve played Wet before. I think I was one of the first to play when they just opened up, but I’m really excited. It’s gonna be interesting to see what it’s like. I haven’t really played a nighttime pool party in Vegas so I’m really excited.
WR: Is there any additional excitement for you considering that it’s the industry closing party for WET at Night?
SA: That’s great. I didn’t know that, (but) yes, it does. I think closing Wet is gonna be big for me and for them. And I think we’re gonna have a lot to talk about afterwards.
WR: Wet Republic has proven to be one of the premier daytime party destinations here in Las Vegas. How do you think it’s set the standard for day life in Las Vegas as well as the world?
SA: I think Wet was one of the first here in Vegas to really do it properly – where it was about the DJ. They had that stage built and then they added the screens and they made the DJ the center of attention, which I think they were first to do. It’s always been a good time. (They’ve continued to develop) and artists come through so you kind of build a reputation. And now with the night pool parties, I think it’s a really good (evolution for) them and it’s cool for us (DJs) too.
WR: You’ve played festivals, pool parties and nightclubs. What would you say is the biggest difference between playing a daytime versus nighttime event?
SA: I think the music has to change. I think if you’re playing a day show, you’re gonna play differently from a night show. I don’t think that you should play the same festival set at the nightclub as you do at the day club. You play a little more groovy, a little more sexy, lighter (music) sometimes. But (a night party) definitely has to have a difference.
